Our house, 2382 Frakes Avenue, is small; there’s a kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a cramped living room. But the reason we bought it was the study. It takes up nearly half of the house by itself, but it was perfect in every way we needed it to be. It’s been two years since I was last here, maybe more, yet little has changed. It’s unusually quiet for a Friday night. Kenma is gone for the evening, which means that their habitual video game tournament is postponed. Kuroo is sorting through some paperwork in the living room, sighing and grumbling as he works through it. Tsukishima is sitting on the couch, headphones plugged in and eyes closed. The world outside is quiet. Some people, the ones still happily asleep in warm beds, might even call it peaceful. They dream on, completely unaware of their Earth’s imminent destruction, the havoc being wreaked by a murder of crows, the deal about to be made with the devil. Unfortunately for me, I know better. I know because I’m the one making the choice, dooming the Earth, making that deal. I’m sure most of the world, if they knew, wouldn’t thank me for it. But I don’t want praise or recognition.
